Q1: How do I upload files to my domain?

A: You will need an FTP Program to upload files. The steps for uploading files to your domain are as follows:

1. Start your FTP program and make sure the following values are in the appropriate place:

  • FTP Server: www.yourdomain.name (eg, www.yahoo.com)
  • Username: Your Hosting Username (This was assigned to you when you signed up for your hosting package.)
  • Password: Your Hosting Password (This was assigned to you when you signed up for your hosting package.)

2. Once you have set up your FTP program to connect to your website, you must connect to the server. Once connected, you will see a directory with the same name as your domain (e.g "yahoo.com") or a folder labeled public for new hosting customers. Files must be uploaded into one of these directories.

3. After all of your files have been uploaded, you'll be able to view your website. Type your domain name into the address bar of your web browser (eg, http://www.yahoo.com) and your site will appear. If you didn't include a page called "index.html", or "index.htm" you'll have to type the name of the HTML file that you want to look at the end of your domain name (eg, http://www.yahoo.com/main.html).

You should test your site to be sure everything works. Please keep in mind that files you have uploaded are case sensitive, meaning that if you name a document Main.html, typing in "main.html" may not work.

Q2: What are the email server settings for my domain?

A: The email settings for your domain are:

Incoming Mail Server (POP3): mail.yourdomain.com
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.vianet.ca

Note:
If you do not use Vianet to connect to the Internet, your Outgoing Mail Server will not be smtp.vianet.ca. You will need to contact your current ISP to obtain their outgoing mail server information.

Q3: I have received an renewal notice for my domain. What should I do?

A: Please send an email or contact us at 1-800-788-0363 and we will help you determine the validity of the document.

Q4: How do I forward my domain email to another account? (e.g yahoo mail or hotmail)

A: Please contact Vianet Technical Support at 1-800-788-0363 to setup domain email forwarding.

Q5: How do I retrieve/change my username and/or password?

A: Please contact Vianet Technical Support at 1-800-788-0363 to retrieve/change your username and/or password.

Q6: I have more questions!
